Air conditioners virtually eradicate bacteria and viruses

The air-filtration and treatment system in Hitachi’s s-Series of room air-conditioning units is said to destroy up to 99.9% of airborne viruses and bacteria — the main mechanism being the generation of ionised mist from air in the room. Units also automatically clean their micro-mesh stainless filter when cooling is not required, removing dust from the filter and collecting it in a dust box.

These units use inverter-driven compressors to provide heating with a COP of 6.13 and cooling with an EER of 6.0.
