TA Hydronics provides unique solution for Uniqa Tower

Helping to deliver energy-efficient comfort for the Uniqa Tower in Vienna is a hydronic solution designed with the help of TA Hydronics.

TA Hydronics’ expertise was called upon to provide the hydronic solution for heating and cooling the 75 m-high Uniqa Tower in Vienna, Austria. The efficient heating and cooling system that resulted have led to the building being awarded an EU Greenbuilding Certificate. A third of the building's energy consumption is provided for by a heat pump and geothermal heating.

By supporting the project consultant Altherm Planungs-Ges and installer Heiz-Hofstaetter, TA Hydronics was able to design a variable-flow system that would heat the building via convectors and cool it using ceiling systems. This solution was based on the TBV-C terminal balancing valve, the STAD manual balancing valve, the STAP differential-pressure controller and KTM balancing valves to control all circuits.

Josef Beisteiner of TA Hydronics, comments, ‘Due to the issues that often surround the heating and cooling of tall buildings, it was necessary for us to provide a solution that would ensure that a comfortable climate was achievable at all times.

‘Using our specialist balancing valves and expert level of knowledge, we were able to support the consultant and installer when the system was first designed and then later installed to provide a well balanced system that would be able to meet the intensive energy demands expected from the building whilst functioning to an advanced level of energy efficiency.’
