Balfour Beatty, wind farm, renewable energy

The electrical infrastructure contract for extending Europe’s largest onshore wind farm has been awarded to Balfour Beatty Engineering Services, Whitelee Wind Farm to the south of Glasgow already has 140 turbines with a capacity of 322 MW. The extension will add 75 turbines and take the capacity to 539 kW.

BBES was part of the team responsible for delivering the first phase of the project — ahead of schedule despite often experiencing severely harsh weather conditions.

For the extension, BBES will be working with John Sisk & Son and Roadbridge to provide electrical infrastructure works, including the substation and control building services, the supply and installation of switchgear and the installation of around 400 km of power and control cabling.
