BSRIA Briefing

BSRIA has announced two more speakers for its annual BSRIA Briefing in London on 17 November. The theme of this year’s briefing is ‘Tomorrow’s challenges in today’s buildings’, and the latest speakers are Jane Vass, director of policy and age research at Age UK (pictured left) and Alan Kell, managing director of I&G Systems (pictured right).

Alan Kell is a renowned leader of world-class projects, consultancy and research programmes based on delivering smart sustainable innovation in cities, communities and buildings. Since 1999, he has operated as a governmental advisor, programme director and international consultant.

The background to the briefing is that 80% of the buildings needed for 2050 already exist. But what will be the requirements within these buildings to accommodate the changing and varied expectations of the occupants whilst not forgetting our energy/carbon targets?

The trends emerging are focused on health, wellness, independence, mobility and leisure. Building services are at the heart of realising these opportunities and delivering the built environment of the future.

The coming demographic shifts are foreseeable. Identifying the challenges now will afford Governments the opportunity to adopt a proactive approach in aligning their policies to the evolving needs.

How will building services need to adapt to meet the needs of future generations and industries?

The after-lunch speaker is Sir Ranulph Fiennes Bt OBE.
