Alstom Power turns to Scorpion Power Systems

Scorpion Power Systems
Scorpion Power Systems has helped protect research at Alstom Power by supplying a new standby power system to replace a 50-year old generator.

The 50-year-old standby generator at a research laboratory of Alstom Power has been replaced with a solution from Scorpion Power Systems. This complete turnkey solution included all electrical installation work and commissioning.

The transverse technologies material creep laboratory investigates materials at high temperature as part of its work. Test rigs use electrically heated furnaces to maintain samples at a constant temperature from weeks to months at a time.

Power cuts longer than four minutes would be detrimental to the results of the tests. The power-protection system also needs to ensure that the laboratory’s air-conditioning system keeps operating to ensure a stable temperature.

The Powerhouse DV275 3-phase diesel generator also supports key facilities such as telephone, lighting and IT equipment. A power outage is recognised by the generator’s AMF, which steps in to provide an alternative power supply.

This generator was specially manufactured with a weatherproof acoustic canopy.
