Airedale develops efficient scroll-compressor chillers
Airedale has responded to market demand for a compact, efficient high-capacity scroll chiller with the 460 to 930 kW air-cooled DeltaChill and 450 to 1010 kW DeltaChill FreeCool. These chillers use R410A and are available in 182 models with two sound variants and three efficiency levels. For applications where space is limited, a more compact chiller can be selected with a standard efficiency level. An 820 kW unit from the high-capacity DeltaChill FreeCool range is illustrated.
Micro-channel coils are used to reduce weight and space requirement, while achieving high efficiency. Their use contributes significantly to the 25% greater efficiency compare with Airedale’s previous-generation compact chiller.
In the high-capacity DeltaChill FreeCool, the micro-channel coil is matched with the free-cooling coil. The larger heat exchanger in the highest-efficiency models allows up to 75% of nominal capacity in free cooling. The supply water can be at 17°C, raising the free-cooling threshold and facilitating free cooling for over 95% of the year.
The module V-frame coil-fan arrange increases coil area for a given footprint. A choice of two or three refrigeration circuits offers up to nine stages of cooling.
Options to increase efficiency and reduce operating costs include variable-speed EC fans, inverter-controlled pumps and active power-factor correction.
When fitted as a combined option, leak detection and refrigerant pump-down are eligible for one BREEAM point.
