Micro-CHP wins Queen’s Award for Innovation

Baxi, micro CHP

Baxi has received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation for its Ecogen micro-CHP boiler. It uses a free-piston Stirling engine and is a like-for-like replacement for a conventional boiler, and also generates up to 1 kW of electricity which can be used in the home or exported to the National Grid. It is MCS certified, so it qualifies for the Feed-in Tariff.

Andrew Keating, managing director of Baxi’s residential boiler division, says, ‘It is a testament to the commitment and hard work of our teams in Preston and Lancashire who have brought Baxi Ecogen, the first domestic appliance of its kind, to the UK marketplace.

‘We believe it heralds the most important step-change for the home-heating industry since the condensing boiler and will be a key factor in delivering a sustainable, low-carbon future for the UK.’
