LED lighting piles on savings for E.ON
Energy savings of up to £40 000 a year are expected following the replacement of 1200 luminaires in the Newstead office of E.ON with LED lighting, representing energy savings of up to 55%. Other savings include £6000 a year for maintenance (labour and material) and £3000 a year carbon-tax savings. The payback is expected to be 6.5 years, and maximum demand has been reduced by 100 kVA.
The PowerBalance luminaires installed use 45 W to deliver a light output of 3200 lm and a colour temperature of 4000 K. Compared with a luminaire having four 18 W switch-start tubes, the energy saving is 55%, with controls achieving an additional 50%.
Clark Morrow, programme manager with E.ON, says, ‘The installation of the PowerBalance LED luminaires has transformed the office space into a bright and comfortable environment to work in. Everyone in the office has been amazed by the amount of light that each LED brings into the room. This project has not only enhanced our working conditions, but also enables us to demonstrate and prove the real benefits of the technology.
