Steam-trapping station has quick-fix features

Spirax Sarco, steam trap

Spirax Sarco’s STS17.2 steam-trapping station incorporates the company’s quick-fit connection technology that enables a steam trap to be replaced in minutes rather than hours, enabling steam systems to be kept at peak efficiency and plant downtime to be reduced significantly. The STS17.2 comprises isolation valves, steam-trap connection with strainer and check valve in a sleek modular body. It comes with a 10-year warranty.

Traditionally, steam traps are welded or screwed into the pipeline, and considerable work is needed to replace them. An underperforming steam trap may therefore be left in place for some time until safe access can be arranged.

Apart from the steam traps themselves, no other components need to be specified or purchased — eliminating the time, cost and inconvenience needed to select, size, build and install a conventional steam-trapping station.

Lockable handles on the isolation valves help ensure that maintenance can be carried out safely.

A new option is the double isolation adapter to provide the added security of two upstream isolation valves so steam taps can be replaced while the system is live.
