NG Bailey exceeds its sustainability targets

Sustainability as good business sense — Cal Bailey of NG Bailey.

NG Bailey has exceeded the targets for its Target 2012 sustainability campaign by substantial margins. Notable success include reducing CO2 emissions by 24% a year ahead of the 20% target. Water use was cut by 27%, compared with the 20% target. And over £1 million-worth of materials from sites was re-used, which would otherwise have been wasted.

Energy efficiency measures installed across the estate as part of the programme include solar PV in two offices and biomass heating at the Grade 1 listed headquarters, Denton Hall near Ilkley.

Smart metering was rolled out across all offices to enable accurate and rapid measurement of energy use across the company’s estate.

Sustainability director Cal Bailey takes up the story: ‘We have also developed eco-friendly site cabins that are 40% more energy efficient, created a water-saving solution that dramatically cuts the amount of water needed for commissioning on site and reduced our business-wide mileage from 20 million to 13 million miles a year.

‘What we have done has reduced our impact on the environment and improved the communities in which we work. It has also made good business sense — contributing significant savings to our bottom line.

‘We will soon be launching our new corporate responsibility programme, in which we will set ourselves even more ambitious target for the years ahead.’
