Cablofil helps wire up Newport County Hall

Cablofil, steel wire cable tray
Cablofil steel-wire cable tray has been used in the remodelling of data and electrical services for Newport County Hall on the Isle of Wight.

The Isle of Wight’s Newport County Hall has been remodelled with data and electrical services to meet current and future demand using Cablofil cable management from Legrand. The new electrical installation makes it possible to centralise services for the 39 electoral wards, 25 parish councils and eight town councils. The remodelling project allows resident access to council services via self-service terminals in the new public reception area and increases staffing capacity from around 300 to over 700, The project follows the installation of a ‘server farm’ in 2010 to provide secure data and IT services to secondary equipment rooms on each floor. Electrical contractor Paktron used the Cablofil steel-wire tray system for its cable-management infrastructure and opted for Cablofil again for the refurbishment of the main building.

Cablofil tray in sizes from 50 to 600 mm has been installed, mainly in ceiling voids, with separate runs of basket for power, lighting and data. The main arterial cables were installed in vertical risers connecting with the ceiling-void installation on each floor.

Matt Lane of Paktron observes, ‘The ceiling voids were quite tight, but Cablofil steel-wire cable tray is so light and flexible that creating bends on site to fit the available space was relatively straightforward. Because we have built in additional capacity, the council can simply add new cables to the existing infrastructure on an as-needed basis.’
