LG Multi V III VRF replaces heating and cooling
LG’s flagship Multi V III heating and cooling system has been installed in a children’s home in a £500 000 project to replace the previous heating and cooling system. It is one of the first Multi V III installations in the UK. Swanwick Lodge in Hampshire is a purpose-built facility providing care for children aged 10 to 17 years. For two consecutive years it has scored an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating.
The contract was won by mechanical contractor ARB Mechanical Engineering, which called in DX Engineering Solutions to undertake the installation.
Key benefits of Multi V III include higher energy efficiency, larger capacity and longer piping design. Units are also very quiet in operation.
A complete re-engineering of the compressor has increased COP by up to 11%; by itself, LG’s patented HiPOR (high-pressure oil return) improves the system’s COP by up to 5%. Replacing the AC motor with a BLDC inverter motor also improves efficiency.
Better heat-exchange performance has been achieved by reducing the heat-exchanger temperature deviation from 5 to 1 K by applying an optimal distributor design.
Working on the design concept established by Hampshire County Council’s in-house engineering team, LG’s technical department developed the initial design. The team, led by the county council’s engineers and comprising LG’s technical department and Elementa Consulting then brought the project through from detailed design to installation.
