Building-services consultant installs MSCBs in own office

An effective solution for providing services for the new offices of Roger Preston & Partners at Maidenhead is provided by Trox multi-service chilled beams.
Trox multi-service chilled beams have been used extensively in the refurbishment of a 3-storey building dating from 1986 to provide new offices for building-services consultancy Roger Preston & Partners in Maidenhead. The building is now mainly open plan, with a large resource section, individual quiet booths and flexible conference-room areas. This was achieved by removing false ceilings and installing 56 Trox MSCBs for comfort cooling, heating and lighting. There are 28 on each of the first two floors. The beams include special electric heating elements, destratification fans and lighting. They also incorporate temperature sensors and PIR sensors for lighting control using the DALI protocol. An integrated building-management system optimises comfort and minimises energy use. The total length of the beams is 218 m, and they achieve a cooling capacity of 60 to 65 W/m2 at 23°C. Illumination is over 400 lx, with a lighting load of 9.0 W/m2. The beams are suspended from the underside of the soffit at a height of 3.2 m and are 600 mm deep. Chris Munn of Roger Preston & Partners says, ‘We are extremely happy with Trox MSCBs. They create an environment that is superior to what it would have been if we had used traditional fan coils or VRVs in a suspended ceiling, by creating a greater sense of space and light.’ The MSCBs were delivered in reusable crates made of timber from a sustainable source.
