AHUs with a view in Portsmouth

Portsmouth
The air-handling requirements of the new Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth are served by VES AHUs with heat recovery.
All the air-handling units for the 170 m Spinnaker Tower alongside Portsmouth’s historic harbour have been supplied by VES Andover. They include special versions of the Ecovent heat-recovery units for the viewing decks, which were supplied with acoustic linings. All units were supplied with full anti-corrosion treatments suitable for the demanding waterfront location at Gun Wharf Quays. VES also provided silencers and duct-mounted electric heaters for the project. Other VES heat-recovery units were provided for Tower Café/Bar at the base of the the tower; they also serve the entrance foyer and ticket areas. Three viewing decks 100 m above the ground can be reached in 30 s in the high-speed lift. Two decks have full-height glazing, providing panoramic views across the city, harbour, sea and coastline. The third and highest deck is open. On a clear day the view is nearly 40 km. At 100 m above the ground, the more daring visitors can step onto the largest glass floor in Europe.
