IET campaign sets out to boost female engineers
A campaign to attract more women into engineering roles is being launched by the Institution of Engineering & Technology. It aims to encourage companies of all shapes and sizes to revisit their approach to recruitment and retention. Just 7% of the UK engineering workforce is female, which effectively means that engineering companies are not accessing half of the potential talent pool.
Championing the campaign is IET deputy president Naomi Climer, president of Sony Media Cloud Services. She has led a 50:50 campaign to create an inclusive and diverse culture that promotes gender balance and a fulfilling working environment to achieve a greater business result. She is now keen to encourage other engineers to do the same.
The IET campaign is being launched on National Women in Engineering Day (23 June 2014) and is calling for other companies to look at how they can make their recruitment and retention more female friendly.
