Total building management

An asset-management suite from AMX includes building asset management and room-scheduling packages. The AssetManager option engages the building control system in 2-way communication with the devices being controlled. Instead of passive devices only responding to signals from the system operator, these devices can communicate a change in their state to the ‘brain’ of the system, which then acts according to the program responses at its disposal. In practical terms, this means that as well as being able to switch on lights throughout a building or operate equipment in a presentation suite from a single control panel, the system can detect if a lamp has failed or if air conditioning is not working properly and notify the maintenance department. An alert can be raised if expensive equipment such as projectors in a lecture theatre are unplugged, implying an attempt to steal them. Possible responses include alerting the system administrator or security or locking all exit doors from the building. A complementary option to AssetManager is MeetingManager, a room scheduling services that provides a facility for booking rooms and equipment and which integrates seamlessly with the other functions of the system. The MeetingManager software works across various computer platforms, so that users have access from their own workstation to locate and reserve rooms and select which equipment they require.
