Xpelair takes a fresh look at ventilation products
Xpelair has advanced its product offering for domestic ventilation with the development of an extremely quiet extract fan and an efficient single-room heat-recovery unit that is ideal for the refurbishment.
The Simply Silent Contour range of 4 in fans incorporates Xpelair’s patented Ghost air-movement technology. Their noise level is 16 dB(A) at 3 m when extracting 15 l/s as required by Building Regulations. Maximum extract rate is up to 28 l/s.
The clip-on front fascia of the Simply Silent Contour range can be square or round, as pictured. Among the features that contribute to quiet running are a cone behind the front baffle to direct air straight onto the impeller. The impeller itself has a blade design to maximise performance and minimise noise. Long-life ball-bearing motors avoid noise levels increasing as the fan ages. Finally, flow straighteners guide air through the duct to the outside, reducing turbulence.
The outside grille can be installed from inside the building. The folding grille is pushed through the duct in the wall and opens out, after which it is pulled back into place where it locks into place.
Other installation features include just three fixing screws for the circular back plate with screw slots that allow for easy movement and alignment before final fixing.
Ghost air-movement technology is also used in the Solitair 4 in single-room heat-recovery unit. The heat exchanger, which can been seen in the cutaway is a rotating thermal wheel based on technology from the chemical process engineering industry.
A summer bypass facility can provide free cooling in the evening when the outside air temperature drops below indoor levels.
Solitair is designed to fit into the space of an existing 4 in fan, making it a replacement solution to the many demands of local authorities, housing associations, refurbishment and retail sectors.
Steve Holton, strategic marketing director for Redring Xpelair, says, ‘The launch of Solitair represents a significant improvement on existing technology in the market and demonstrates how integral the installation process is to all our new product ranges.
‘We understand that time and ease of installation are crucial factors for installers, especially when tasked with fitting large numbers of units. The ability to replace the unit in quick time, whilst upgrading and improving the ventilation and heat-recovery capabilities of the dwelling at the same time, is something we’re proud of.’
