Voltage optimiser solves problem of blown lamps

Constantly blowing spotlights are a thing of the past following the installation of a Marshall-Tufflex voltage optimiser in a home in Suffolk.

The problem of constantly blowing recessed spotlights in a house in Suffolk has been solved by the installation of a voltage optimiser to limit the voltage of the incoming electricity supply. Something like £50 a month was promptly saved on replacement light bulbs.

The suggestion for a voltage optimiser was put forward by Ipswich electrician Lawrence Metcalfe when he discovered that the voltage was 248 V, with peaks of 250 V. Electrical equipment is generally designed for 220 to 240 V.

Three months after installing the Marshall-Tufflex Voltis Home unit, Lawrence Metcalfe checked on progress: ‘They had not lost a single lamp. They have also noticed a significant drop in their electricity biller — around 18% compared to previous quarters.’

Voltis Home reduces the incoming mains to around 220 V. These compact units are installed between the electricity meter and the consumer unit in about 90 minutes.
