New training centre addresses skills shortages

This new training centre in Southampton has the capacity to provide plumbing and electric courses for a hundred people at any one time. It has been set up by New Careers Skills, a nationwide training provider for mature career changers, and Apprenticeship Training. The 100 m2 centre provides theory and practical sessions. Training bays are filled with functional basins, toilets, baths and showers — all with running water. Tim Adderson, founder of New Career Skills, says, ‘We are committed to help fill the skills shortage, and this high-capacity training centre will make a large contribution to the trades industry.’

More refrigerant bans possible, says government

The government could tighten up the rules that restrict the use of global warming refrigerant gases including speeding up phase-out programmes and introducing new bans, according to a spokesman from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
