Preventing boiler dry cycling at the King’s Cross Hospital in Dundee has achieved average fuel savings of 7% with a payback of 1.8 years. Sabien Technology verified the savings for its M2G boiler-load optimisation controls for NHS Tayside.

Delivering cost savings is a key area of focus for NHS Tayside,’ explains its energy co-ordinator John Ruddy. ‘We decided to verify what savings M2G could deliver, and we are pleased with the outcome.’

Installation work has no impact on clinical practice, enabling all areas of the hospital to function as usual.

The measurement and verification project involved M2G units being installed on Hamworthy Wessex 200HE, Hoval Ultragas 500 and Hamworthy Purewell Classic boilers. Sabien’s M1G was also installed on the hospital’s direct-fired water heaters. Energy consumption was compared to previous consumption, using degree-day data to allow for weather variation.
