Raychem trace heating for DHW complies with latest industry standard

Pentair Thermal Building Solutions, which specialises in electrical trace heating, offers single-pipe trace-heating cables that are fully compliant with recently updated UK standards for hot-water systems. BS 8558:2015 highlights single-pipe systems with electrical self-regulating trace-heating cables as a suitable and efficient technology for substituting secondary return pipework when hot-water recirculation is not practical.

To meet this need, Raychem self-regulating trace-heating technology is suitable for commercial and residential buildings, in conjunction with the primary flow pipe network. As a result, there is no longer a need to run a tap for extended periods before achieving the desired temperature — saving both water and energy.

Raychem self-regulating trace-heating cables automatically adjust their power output to compensate for temperature changes in the pipe network.

There is a range of products. For example, the HWAT-T55 thermostat monitors the boiler temperature and ensures hot water is efficiently supplied through the pipework. When water use is high and hot water is flowing from the water heater to the point of use without delay, the heating cable powers down. During hours of low use, the temperature is lowered by 5 K while sustaining the required maintenance temperature of 50°C.
