Armstrong devises effective pump solution for Birmingham project

Variable-speed pumps from Armstrong Fluid Technology are expected to deliver energy savings of up to 70% compared to the life-expired fixed-speed end-suction pumps they replace. The project is at The Axis, a major commercial centre in the middle of Birmingham.

This 11-storey office complex of 16 500 m2 has recently undergone a major HVAC refurbishment. Armstrong was asked by the site’s controls specialist Demma Controls to provide a proposal for refurbishing the site’s HVAC pumping system.

It was important that the project could be carried out with minimal modification of pipework and that the new pumps could be installed within a similar physical footprint to the old pumps

The solution came from the 4300 series Design Envelope IVS variable-speed models. They integrate a vertical inline pump, motor and intelligent variable-speed controller.

Pump accessories specified for this project lowered costs by reducing installation times. Armstrong suction guides and Flo-Trex valves reduce the requirements for pipework and fittings by performing multiple functions with a single component. They also reduced the space required, and the vertical inline design of the pumps enabled them to be installed within a similar footprint of the old pumps.
