Boosting the energy efficiency of a split air-conditioning system

The development by Airedale of a compact remote electronic-expansion-valve management system (REEV) that can be added to a split air-conditioning system can improve energy efficiency by up to 30% compared with a conventional condensing unit and air-handling unit (AHU). REEV enables the condensing unit and the AHU valve management to talk to each other. By bringing the efficiency and control of a packaged system to a split system, REEV provides stable and accurate control of the refrigeration-system superheat — improving energy efficiency. Any manufacturer’s new or existing AHU, regardless of size can be matched, via the REEV, to an Airedale Ultima compact condensing unit that incorporates the necessary micro-processor controls. The requirements are a network cable, power supply, remote electronic-expansion valve and the REEV’s control box. Installation is minimal, as the remote electronic-expansion valve is installed at the evaporator, without interfering with the AHU’s control system.
