Evaporative systems provide energy-efficient cooling for Premier Foods

Evaporative cooling using 20 Breezair units provides cooling at Premier Foods with a far smaller energy consumption than conventional air conditioning.
Cooling equipment that uses far less energy than conventional air conditioning has been installed at Premier Foods at Bury St Edmunds. Following a major fire, the company decided to replace its air-handling system with a state-of-the-art heating and cooling system, and Celsius Design devised a solution based on Breezair evaporative air coolers ducted with steam heater batteries. Premier Foods has two facilities at Bury St Edmunds of 16 000 and 9600 m2. Before the installation of these systems, internal temperatures reached 32°C when the external temperature was 28°C. Following an in-depth survey, Celsius Design calculated that 20 Breezair units would be required, ducted two per inlet into 10 ducts. Each duct has a steam heater battery to temper incoming air during the winter. Extraction is provided using 20 natural vents. Breezair systems can provide sufficient cool air to overflow and prevent hot air entering a building. Fresh air is continually drawn from outside, passed over a saturated medium and washed.
