Greenways supplies M&E design for new primary school

Greenways

Natural ventilation and CHP are features of the M&E services designed by building-services consultancy Greenways for the new £5 million Edgewick Community Primary School in Coventry. There is also an LED lighting system with a DALI-based fully addressable control system — including daylight dimming, absence detection and independent switching for each room in the building.

The new building doubles the capacity of the previous building and can accommodate up to 420 pupils from nursery to year six.

The CHP has an electrical output of 5.5 kW and a thermal output of 14.4 kW. It contributes to the LPHW feed for the heating system, which comprises ceiling panels in the classrooms and radiators in the offices. There are also two 800 kW boilers.

Greenways designed the controls for the heating and the natural-ventilation turrets into a building management system, based on summer and winter settings, with motorised actuators linking to temperature and CO2 sensors to control the ventilation. The BMS is monitored centrally by Coventry City Council.
