Idom Merebrook secures high-profile project in Manchester
Idom Merebrook, a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy based in Manchester, has been appointed to manage the outline design for all M&E works on a high-profile residential development in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Worth over £9 million, this scheme is on an infill site bordered by Red Lion Street, Church Street and Union Street. It has been granted planning permission by Manchester City Council.
The exterior design includes maintaining the aesthetics of the original Bull’s Head pub facade as an entrance. Above the facade, the rest of the building has been set back by 3.6 m to limit the visual impact at street level.
There will be 38 apartments in buildings of five, seven eight and 11 storeys. there will be 200 m2 of ground-floor commercial space. The residential element will include units with one, two and three bedrooms above the office and retail space on the lower levels.
Colin Lehane, principal mechanical engineer, commented, ‘The building-services team is delighted to be given the opportunity to work on a building that will one day form part of Manchester’s maturing skyline. The building has posed some significant challenges for our team.’
