Hospital-specification air-handling units

Thermal Transfer has developed a range of air-handling units for hospital and similar buildings. Their construction is based on requirements to sterilise sections and components. They also have inside surfaces free of screws, hinges, fixings and other protrusions that may harbour dirt and bacteria. These AHUs are designed to meet the requirements of the national Health Specification C04 and the NHS Estates Technical Memorandum HMT2025. There is a full range of panel and bag filters from G3 to H14, including activated-carbon filters. They are held in galvanised or stainless-steel assembly frames. Filter sections can be fitted with inclined manometers or Magnehelic gauges, with or without electrical contacts. Slide-in cooling coils are suitable for chilled water or direct expansion. The removable stainless-steel condensate drain tray has a fall of 1:20 and extends into the access sections either side of the coil. There is a stainless-steel skin to all cooling-coil and humidifier sections. Fan sections are available with centrifugal DIDW, forward- and backward-curved fans with matching V-belt drives. Motors can be single- or 2-speed or suitable for inverter control. Motors can be mounted outside the air stream. Direct-drive plug fans with inverter drives are also offered; these do not have drive belts that might break up or shred into the air stream. Heat-recovery sections include plate heat exchangers with stainless-steel condensate trays, thermal wheels and run-around coils. Attenuator sections can include a Melinex lining to prevent fibres migrating into the conditioned air stream. The 120 mm base frame has additional support feet to provide clearance for condensate traps and access underneath to maintain a clean plant room.
