FETA guidance on A2L refrigerants

The refrigerants working group of FETA (Federation of Environmental Trade Associations) has prepared a guidance note on A2L (mildly flammable, such as R32) refrigerants and their use in refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat-pump applications. The F-Gas regulation of 2015 requires the introduction of refrigerants with significantly lower GWPs (global warming potential) and will ban new equipment that uses HFC refrigerants with a GWP of over 2500 by 2020.

The guidance note offers an overview on A2L refrigerants, practical advice on their safe use and examples of different applications. It seeks to signpost the fact that these refrigerants will play an increasing role in the market over the coming years, particularly for air conditioning, where future alternatives will be A2L-type refrigerants.
