Aggreko supplies interim heating during university infrastructure upgrade

Aggreko, boiler hire, space heating

The University of St Andrews has partnered with Aggreko to provide an interim heating and hot-water system during the shutdown of its existing heating infrastructure for a major upgrade involving the installation of new boilers and replacing major sections of pipework. The temporary heating system was designed and implemented to maintain full operation of the university campus.

Aggreko provided three separate bespoke heating packages totalling 2 MW to different areas of the campus.

Four 250 kW boilers were placed 75 m from the existing boiler room, and hoses were run to the United Colleges and Irvine building.

Two 250 kW boilers were situated 50 m from a second boiler room at the Arts Building, while two others were installed in an extremely limited space at the Psychology, which houses critical facilities that require consistent temperature.

Robert Brown, electrical engineer at the university, said, ‘Once the heating survey was completed, it was apparent that we needed to implement immediate maintenance and upgrades. We spoke to Aggreko first as we knew that they could respond quickly and had confidence that they could design and provide a full, reliable interim heating scheme.’

Russell Brown, regional sales manager with Aggreko, said, ‘Having supplied the university with a contingency plan for emergency power, we were already familiar with the site.’

The boilers are housed in a compact canopy case, making them easy to transport and permitting use in confined compounds, service yards and boiler rooms.
