Move back to wet cooling boosts BAC Balticare sales

A 25% increase in orders is reported by wet-cooling specialist BAC Balticare. This is part of a recently completed 10 MW cooling-tower installation at Plantation Place near the Tower of London.
BAC Balticare, the sales, contracting and services arm of Baltimore Aircoil has reported 25% higher orders than last year for cooling-tower systems. This success is in the face of a flat air-conditioning market and lack of new projects in refrigeration and industrial process cooling. Commenting on the record figures, managing director Bob Macleod-Smith says, ‘Our order levels are running at more than £8 million. What we are offering in response to market demand is a complete care programme to ensure efficient and safe operation of “wet” cooling systems.’ The company offers developers, owners, specifiers and contractors a full life cycle service of design, installation, risk management and site services for new and existing cooling-tower systems. Mr Macleod-Smith says, ‘The trend against wet cooling systems by consultants and owners has started to be reversed due to their energy efficiency, cost effectiveness and environmental benefits. ‘We are finding that increasingly owners are upgrading their cooling towers and evaporative condensers rather than replacing them with air-cooled alternatives and, in some cases, reinstalling wet cooling equipment. The success of Balticare since its inception just a few years ago has certainly answered a market need. ‘The package of services that BAC Balticare offers for evaporative cooling equipment has also helped to boost the incorporation of energy-efficient wet system in new cooling installations. The market response has been extremely positive.’ info-uk@balticare.co.uk
