VRF air conditioning helps convert warehouse to department store

The installation of a VRF air-conditioning system to provide both heating and cooling has made it possible for a traditional department store in Cranleigh, Surrey, to expand into a warehousing area. This single-skin building experiences extreme swings of temperature, aggravated by the installation of an intermediate floor. Downstairs cooling can be required quickly as the space fills up with people. Upstairs in winter, heating is almost always required. In summer, both levels need very responsive cooling. The installation by EAC Services (Guildford) comprises a 95 kW 2-pipe SMMS heat-pump system with three supplementary 12/14 kW split systems. The nine ceiling cassettes are group controlled by the Toshiba Interactive Intelligence control system. The outdoor units are at the rear of the store. Although they are very close to neighbouring houses, there have been no complaints of disturbance.
