Industry responds to rising copper prices

Rising copper prices are prompting high levels of interest in plastic pipework, according to Durapipe UK. Since the Spring, the company has seen a 20% increase in enquiries for its plastic-pipework systems and attributes the rise in part to the need of specifiers and contractors for alternative materials to help combat the copper crises. The company is preparing for another surge in sales conversions as copper prices are set to soar again. Copper prices have grown by 50% since the beginning of the year. The rising price of copper is also increasing theft as is becomes a more valuable commodity in its scrap form. Martyn Rowlands, head of marketing for Durapipe UK, says, ‘Our teams across the country are receiving an uplift in calls from concerned parties as to how they can combat the knock-on effect of the copper price hikes and are increasingly turning to high-performance plastic pipework to address these issues.’
