Samsung launches R410A VRF air-conditioning system

Samsung has launched an R410A version of its Digital Variable Multi VRF air-conditioning system. The launch of DVM2 is the first stage of introducing over a hundred new products during 2006. The system uses Copeland digital scroll technology, which is based on a compressor running at constant speed and matching its capacity to system demand by continuously loading and unloading to provide time-averaged capacity control. It provides capacity control down to 10%. The power consumption of an unloaded compressor is reduced to only 10% that of full-load power. This approach to capacity control is said to avoid the need for the oil-collection cycle that is needed with compressors running at variable speed, because of the excellent oil-return characteristics arising from the compressor always discharging at 100%. The new range comprises four outdoor modules which combine to provide systems from 8 to 48 hp in 2 hp increments. Index pipe runs can be up to 170m (195 m equivalent), with total pipe lengths running to 300 m. The range of indoor units includes one-way, 2-way and 4-way cassettes. There are also built-in duct, silhouette duct and a new slim duct. There are two types of wall unit — premium and classic — and a ceiling unit. Indoor units have cooling capacities from 2.2 to 14 kW. The DVM2 range is initially available for cooling only and qualifies for Enhanced Capital Allowances. Further launches this year will include a 3-pipe heat-recovery version and a Mini DVM system. A comprehensive range of controllers combines simplicity with sophistication. They include a Data Management Server with an embedded web server that provides control via a web browser of up to 256 indoor units. Multiple users are supported, with a password system for different levels of control.
