Colt system to control smoke in Emirates Stadium

Smoke ventilation for the underground car park at the Emirates Stadium is provided by a Colt impulse ventilation system.
A colt impulse ventilation has been installed in the car park of the Emirates Stadium in London to control smoke in the event of a fire. This approach to smoke control avoids the need for the extensive ductwork that would be required for a traditional system. The impulse system comprises 59 Jetstream fans, four 1800 mm extract fans and associated controls and sensors for carbon dioxide, smoke and heat. The contract was worth £1.2 million. The fans are mounted under the ceiling around the car park to move air and smoke towards each extraction point. The fans are reversible and linked to a wind-direction sensor so that smoke can be moved clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on wind direction. Other benefits of the system include a more open environment, better CCTV coverage and lower initial and running costs.
