HVCA’s inspection and assessment scheme wins independent praise

The system for third-party inspection and assessment of members of the Heating & Ventilating Contractors’ Association has been described as ‘second to none’ by an independent accreditation body. The evaluation was undertaken by the Construction Licensing Executive, which has been established to help eradicate rogue traders by providers consumers in Scotland and Northern Ireland with an accessible register of reputable contractors across construction disciplines. Although broadly similar to Trustmark, which was launched in England and Wales in January 2006 and for which HVCA is a scheme operator, CLE is being developed to cover work in the industrial and commercial, as well as domestic, sectors. The thorough nature of HVCA inspection and assessment has already allowed all compliant members of the association to automatically qualify for inclusion on the CLE register. The CLE report notes, ‘The inspection system is second to none, and the fact that every one of their member companies has been inspected in a 3-year period speaks volumes. Every detail of the process is clearly documented, and the amount of information that is easily brought to hand is extraordinary.’
