Hospital engineers DHW for greater efficiency

For the first time in years, staff and patients at York District Hospital are receiving constant supplies of hot water at the right temperature — as well as more efficiently and with substantially lower maintenance costs. Eight individually engineered systems have been supplied by Spirax Sarco, comprising a plate heat exchanger and all necessary control and isolation valves, steam traps and ancillary equipment needed to deliver DHW at a constant 60°C. The systems replace 26-year-old Agelery heaters (a type of shell-and-tube vertical heat exchanger). Reg Banks, mechanical-services manager at the hospital, explains, ‘The temperature control on these old units was poor. At times, the DHW temperature would fluctuate, causing problems for staff. We have had no temperature problems since the new Sirax Sarco units were installed. We have also seen a marked cut in our energy costs. enquiries@spiraxsarco.com
