SBEM update

An updated version of the SBEM energy-calculation software is available for download. SBEM version 1.2a enables designers to demonstrate compliance with Part L2A of the Building Regulations for non-domestic buildings that came into effect in April. The main changes include the following. • Allowing demonstration of compliance with equivalent Building Regulations in Northern Ireland. • Revised default values for thermal bridges. • Simplifications of some HVAC definitions. • Easier entry of data applicable to the whole building. • Modifications to underlying databases to improve accuracy.

More refrigerant bans possible, says government

The government could tighten up the rules that restrict the use of global warming refrigerant gases including speeding up phase-out programmes and introducing new bans, according to a spokesman from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
