Third-generation lighting control switches from Steinel are being used in the new control tower for Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport.
Steinel’s third-generation lighting controller switches are controlling lighting in and around the new control tower at Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport. The ‘cab’ containing the control room is supported on top of an 85 m-high, 4.6 m diameter triangular steel mast. It has two lifts. Steinel wall sensors are used in stairwells and corridors to control lighting to minimise running costs and maximise energy savings. These sensors have a reach of 4 to 8 m or 8 to 20 m and cover an angle of 180°C. An infra-red ceiling system is used in lift lobbies and other open areas where lighting control is required. The sensor has all-round vision from a height of up to 4 m and a 26 m reach. A Nightmatic 5000PF system is used outside the tower to control the red neon perimeter lighting for dawn-to-dusk illumination. The illumination is switched on and off in relation to the level of ambient light. The twilight setting can be adjusted from 0.5 to 100 lx. All Steinel products used in the control tower meet the criteria for being potential free.
