Sanyo air-conditioning systems have been installed in Centre House in Sheen to provide heating and cooling for 10 separate zones for flexibility in letting. This 1500 m2 refurbishment project for the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames has services designed by consultant Calford Seaden, and the Sanyo equipment was supplied by McQuay UK as a distributor. The air-conditioning installation will also make it easier to convert some areas of the open-plan system on the first and second floors into private offices. The building is already occupied by Richmond Housing and a primary-care trust. Each zone is served by a Sanyo VRF system and comprises a 2-pipe ECOi outdoor heat pump using R410A and up to 11 ECOi floor-standing indoor units around the perimeter of the building. The number of units in each zone depends on its area and predicted use. Some zones also employ compatible 4-way cassettes and well as floor units to distribute conditioned air. Each heat pump can deliver 22 to 33 kW of cooling and 25 to 38 kW of heating. The floor standing units have cooling/heating capacities of 4/5 kW. The project also includes wall-mounted split units to provide cooling, on a run and standby basis, for telecommunications and the computer room. The equipment was installed and commissioned by Mastercool
