The ability of Kingspan’s KoolDuct system to be installed up to three times faster than sheet-metal ducting has be exploited in this new college building in Paisley.
The installation benefits of Kingspan’s KoolDuct were used to good effect for a new £12 million teaching block at Reid Kerr College in Paisley. The 3-storey building is linked to the existing Renfrew Building and includes lecture theatres, nursery, special-needs education and staff facilities. At the heart of the building, in a full-height atrium, are study and rest areas for students. Allan Wishart, associate director with M&E consulting engineers Hawthorne Boyle Partnership, explains, ‘A total of 800 m2 of KoolDuct was installed throughout the buildings, and the ease and speed at which the system can be installed and the convenience of manufacturing the system on site made it the most ideal form of ducting for this project.’ The lightweight KoolDuct system requires only a single-fix installation. In contrast, sheet-metal ducting requires a second operation for insulation and vapour sealing. According to consultant Bucknall Austin, the KoolDuct system can be installed up to three times faster than sheet-metal ductwork.
