Supporters complete the London Marathon for engineer-backed relief fund

Consulting engineers and other organisations in the construction industry joined in the recent Flora London Marathon in support of RedR-IHE, a charity founded and funded by engineers and involved in disaster relief and rehabilitation. It has been recognised by the United Nations as a leading agency in the area of water and sanitation. 10 runners took part, with representatives from Benaim, Cundall, ACE, Bradbrook Consulting, Emap Construct, ICE and Mott MacDonald. Andy Walker, communications and public-affairs director with ACE and who has run this marathon four times, says, ‘Just completing the London Marathon, in what the organisers are saying was the hottest weather ever experienced for the race, is some achievement. Even before the start, you could feel the Sun beating down on your head, and it didn’t abate for most of the course. It was hot, hard and tough going, but all the RedR-IHE runners came through and raised thousands of pounds in the process.’ Contributions to the efforts of these runners can still be made atthe web site below. • Modern Building Services contributed to the fund-raising efforts of the London Marathon by sponsoring Hugh Dixon, marketing manager with Sanyo Air Conditioning in the UK, for his chosen charity Farm Africa.
