China sets temperature limit for air conditioning

The lower limit for using air conditioning to cool buildings in China has been set as 26°C by the government as part of a plan to cut energy consumption by 20%. The news came on a day when the temperature in Shanghai was 37°C — and expected to be hotter the next day. Compared with a setpoint of 21°C, this new limit would reduce the energy used for air conditioning by over 30% for that ambient temperature.
