Glass facade meets trench heating at BBC Scotland

HCP
Heating around the perimeter of the transparent 6-storey glass structure that is the new headquarters of BBC Scotland is provided by HCP trench heating.
HCP has installed over 1000 m of trench heating in the new 34 000 m2 headquarters of BBC Scotland at Pacific Quay, Glasgow. The project follows HCP’s successful involvement with the BBC Media Village project at White City in London. Trench heating was specified around the entire perimeter of this 6-storey development to help reduce cold downdraughts and condensation typically associated with buildings having glazed elevations. Other benefits include lower water volumes and operating pressures. This project has a combination of a deep pressurised floor void and perimeter cladding brackets, so HCP designed and made special floor brackets to support the trench heating system. SAS International, HCP’s parent company, also supplied extensive architectural metalwork solutions, including bespoke System 600 acoustic rafts for the striking atrium ceiling, the reception ceiling and main office areas, along with wall panelling and balustrades. Arup & Partners was M&E consultant.
