Hospital heating is hygienic and space saving

Ceiling-mounted radiant-heating panels from HCP provide hygienic and space-saving heating for this new building at Basildon Hospital.
The installation of HCP ceiling-mounted radiant-heating panels in the new £60 million cardiothoracic centre at Basildon Hospital maximises the use of floor space and provides a heating solution that is easy to clean. Graham Harris of architect Nightingale Associates says, ‘The current focus on infection control within hospitals combined with the space requirement was a key driver to us selecting radiant panels as a heating source for this scheme. The panels are installed on all four floors and range in length from 600 mm to 6 m. They are used in wards, offices, meeting rooms, reception areas and corridors. The panels have been integrated into suspended ceilings and into plain plasterboard ceilings. Maintenance access for pipework and valves is provided through flush-fitting access plates. HCP radiant-heating panels are made from aluminium and copper and can be totally recycled. The water content of a system is about a seventh that of a traditional radiator system.
