White Young Green wins medical-research contract in Newcastle

WYG
A multidisciplinary appointment on a new £4 million research facility for the University of Newcastle upon Tyne has been awarded to White Young Green. It will house the university’s first magnetic-resonance (MR) scanner for clinical research. Based at Newcastle General Hospital, the scanner will be used to build up an internal picture of the body without using X-rays. This should allow the integrated clinical and basic research team to make substantial progress in diabetes, cancer, heart disease and dementia. The team will also be able to expand its understanding of how various body functions work. As part of its framework agreement with the university and working with Dewjoc Architects, WYG will provide M&E, civil, structural and environmental services for the new building. Phase 1 is due to be completed in January 2005, with phase 2 scheduled to run form March to September 2005.
