DCLG approves CIBSE's scheme for low-carbon energy assessors

CIBSE’s scheme for low-carbon energy assessors has been approved by the Department for Communities & Local Government. CIBSE accreditation is now accepted as a qualification for the following work. • Providing Energy Performance Certificates for commercial buildings or dwellings. • Providing Display Energy Certificates for commercial buildings or dwellings. • Carrying out air-conditioning assessments for complex systems. Stephen Matthews, CIBSE’s chief executive, says, ‘The accreditation requirements are complex, and setting up the systems will not be accomplished overnight. We will be phasing the work of accreditation to meet, as far as possible, the regulatory timetable. ‘Those who are already on the LCC register have already gone a long way towards achieving energy-assessor status for non-domestic EPCs and DECs. Full details of how LCC registrants can top up their qualifications to become low-carbon energy assessors are available on the web site [see below]. We will be tackling EPCs first, and the top-up training for existing LCC members will begin in March.’ CIBSE Certification is committed to ensuring that the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations lead to real carbon savings, requiring that those with real expertise and competence to make improvements carry our the work of providing building-energy assessments.
