New Honeywell system supports BACnet and LonWorks

Honeywell has launched a new standard in open building-management solutions that is network based and freely programmable. Called Excel Web, it hosts core building-management applications, including traditional heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, energy management (e.g. optimal start/stop, night purge and maximum-load demand) and supervisory functions for lighting, shade, comfort and energy metering. Excel Web uses two open standards — BACnet and LonWorks. It can be integrated into any BACnet tertiary system and also integrates with LonWorks-enabled products from Honeywell and other manufacturers. By ‘speaking’ BACnet over Internet Protocol (IP), Excel Web can be integrated into any network infrastructure without additional devices. The controller uses open-source technologies, including Linux as its operating system. As a web-based solution, it can be controlled via an Internet browser, offering licence-free, remote and workstation-independent operation.
