Wireless fire system chosen for Bankside refurbishment

A radio-based fire-detection system is being installed as part of the refurbishment of Bankside sub-station in London. The system will be based on EMS Group’s 5000 FirePoint system. It will be designed and installed by EMS Group’s approved partner FDSA Fire Protection, working closely with project manager Arva and design consultant Arup.

This wire-free system was chosen for its flexibility to cover all phases of the project. It provides a long-term solution for the project’s fire-detection needs and flexibility during development that cannot be achieved with a wired system by the temporary resiting of fire sensors and devices.

The initial system will comprise four radio-networked control panels, 150 wireless devices and five message pagers to provide staff with instant text messages warning them of a fire or fault condition.

The project is part of the new development on the south side of Tate Modern to provide 60% more gallery space. It is scheduled to be completed in time for the Olympics in 2012.
