Skerritt invests £1.6 million in new headquarters building

Progressing with Skerritt’s 5-year plan to double the size of the company, development Les Francis outside the company’s new headquarters in Nottingham.

Skerritt, one of Nottingham’s oldest mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractors, has moved to new offices in the centre of the city. The company’s turnover has grown consistently since 2006, and it commissioned Bodhill Construction to unify two buildings, one on Huntingdon Street and the other on St Mark’s Street, into 1400 m2 of open-plan facilities over four floors. About 80% of the company’s staff in Nottingham have moved to the new headquarters.

Development director Les Francis says, ‘In 2006, we embarked on a 5-year plan to double the size of the company. By 2007, turnover had gone from £28 million to £46 million. We’ve done that through partnering frameworks with big construction companies, by proving ourselves in the commercial sector, by modernising our offer and by retaining our traditional values of good service and integrity.

‘The new offices will be much better suited to the way our design and engineering teams work, more fitting to the strength and standing we have as a £50 million company, and they will accommodate any future expansion of the team.’

Skerritt currently employs more than 250 people from its offices in Nottingham and projects across the UK.

Technical features of the new building include low-energy lighting inside and outside, energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, solar-powered hot-water systems, roof-top photo-voltaics and rooflight systems directing daylight into enclosed offices.
