SES starts work on final phase of Manchester development

Prefabricated modules are an important approach to the provision by SES of M&E services for Four Piccadilly Place in Manchester.

Shepherd Engineering Services has started work on one of the few buildings in Manchester to have been awarded a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating for its efficiencies in design and operation. Four Piccadilly Place is the final phase of the Piccadilly Place development in the heart of Manchester.

The £4.5 million deal involves SES installing the M&E Services, bringing the total M&E project price on the Piccadilly development carried out by SES to over £15 million.

Robert Doherty, divisional director for SES, said, ‘This project has involved working in a totally regenerated area of the city. When completed, Four Piccadilly Place will be awarded the highest BREEAM rating for its environmental performance.

‘I’m confident that through PRISM (our prefabricated integrated service modularisation division), our offsite building and installation of over 250 fully serviced modules, service risers and fully skidded plant rooms have gone some way in helping our client achieve the success they are aiming for.’

Piccadilly Place consists of five buildings of mixed-use space, including the 284-bedroom City Inn Hotel, 33 000 m2 of office space, 167 residential homes and nearly 1000 m2 of retail space.

John Rodaway, account director for Carillion Building has worked with the SES team since 2005. He says, ‘The latest building has taken prefabrication to the next level, with the inclusion of modular wiring systems and automatic lighting control.

‘SES has been a major contributor to the success of Piccadilly place, to such an extent that Carillion have nominated SES as its preferred building-engineering services contractor at the Kings Cross redevelopment project, which starts later this year.’
